Pallets are usually wood and have several slats placed a few inches apart over the tops of the supporting boards and the surrounding frames. However, there are a number of custom pallets out there that are either not wood, or they are made in a very different sort of construction. Here are four custom pallet types and why you want them for your factory.
Metal Wire Coated
Imagine taking several closet racks that are metal coated in electroplating or in thick, heavy-duty plastic. These pallets would be very heavy indeed, but they completely resist rot, and moisture of any kind does not affect them. You can use them to transport barrels of any sort of liquid or fluid, regardless of what it is or the viscosity, and know that the tiniest drops of substance on these metal wire coated pallets is not going to damage them. If anything does drip onto these pallets, you can wash it off and let the pallets drip dry.
Plastic Pallets
Plastic pallets work for anything you want to pile on them. They are also constructed to withstand much heavier loads than the wood pallets, and they can easily be stacked with loads on each pallet in between. Like the metal wire coated pallets above, the plastic pallets are very easy to clean off (when you need to), and the plastic will never rot.
Flat-Top Plastic Pallets
If you have some accident-prone employees who regularly let an ankle or foot slip through the slat openings on standard pallets, what you need are some flat-top plastic pallets. These pallets retain all of the benefits of the previously mentioned plastic pallets, with one added bonus; there are no slat openings. There is only a sort of flat deck top to every pallet. Nobody can slip through because there is no place to slip through, products are not lost under the pallets or trapped under slats where they cannot be reached, and oddly shaped loads will fit better without rocking or slipping on these pallets. They are particularly ideal for anything with wheels or anything that is large and very round and needs a very flat and level surface on which to sit.
Steel Slat
Steel pallet framework with steel slats is the perfect solution for anything that could damage plastic, wood, and/or the wire type of pallets. One example is shipping huge chunks of dry ice. The steel can handle it and adapt. The other pallets of various materials? Not so much.
